Chinese New Year: Moving On..

I think my mum is becoming like me... she is now a Martha Stewart wannabe! She has only recently been very picky when organising parties and gatherings in our home. Yummy desserts displayed and fresh floral arrangments.... My mum is now officially "Martha" in our home when it comes to parties.... the only thing... is Mummy has yet to learn how to cook like her!

Patches also got a new outfit! A new bright red collar!

Happy New Year Everyone!

The Eve of Chinese New Year

Ah Ma with Daddy, Lo Hei at New Majestic Hotel.

Chinese New Year this year is a little different from what it use to be.
For the first time, it is without my Gong Gong...
Everyone is sad that this supposedly happy occasion reminds us that he is not around...
We were never all that close, I'm not sure why it is so painful still.
I recalled the days of going to the hospital to see him... it still feels very recent and raw.
It's too late.

I had dinner with my Ah Ma (paternal grandma) for our reunion.
She has aged a lot since...
She can't remember things... even what happen a couple of minutes ago.
She doesn't realise it is the New Year.

Sometimes, I hate "Time".
It is so unforgiving.
It never looks back.
I hate you.

The Saturday Before Chinese New Year...

EVERYWHERE IS SO BLOODY CROWDED!!
If only this continues after the Chinese New Year, then Singapore might spend its way out of a recession!

15.00
I met Greg for Starbucks today... It's funny cos we only meet once in 3-4 months... I have a few friends that I only meet once in a while... and I really wished I had the time to make it more frequent.

18.42
My parents held a small dinner party with Owen's family at our place.
My dad thinks he is the most amazing Teochew chef..... haha.....

22.58
After that, Daddy, Owen and I went to Chinatown... We didn't have anything in particular we needed to get for Chinese New Year... But just like a yearly tradition, we do it every year without really knowing why we do it...

Sketchup Ketchup

This is what Sketchup is suppose to do.... transform an Architect's thoughts in his head...and put the idea into a computer image in 3D ...

http://vizarch.blogspot.com/

BUT OH MY GOSH! I need to throw up! Who ever said CADing (Computer Aided Design for you non-architecture peeps) was easy? Who ever said Sketchup (a supposedly Idiot-proof software) was the easiest? Who ever thought this was going to help mankind and architects around the world?
I really tried... I REALLY TRIED!
Not only am I frustrated when the thing does stuff I don't want it to...
Not only is this thing purposely not responding the way I want it to....
Not only do I feel paralysed above the waist...
Not only am I constantly fearful my laptop might shut down on me...
BUT I AM ALSO GETTING MOTION SICKNESS FROM ROTATING MY MODEL ROUND AND ROUND!!!

So to me, the best software that will help me communicate my ideas will always and forever be my HB Pencil... unless Sketchup decides to add just a few more functions.....

One Good Point of Being an Architecture Student..

Recently, everyone's been feeling rather jaded about being in Architecture School... especially for more than 3 years... I don't blame them...

But here's a reason why I like being an architecture student:

I have people who work under me... I command my own army....

...of 1:50 scaled acrylic models.....

Ah Peh Turns 25!

To Jon,
the guy who makes being an ah peh awesome and who made me think being conventional was just plain stupid.

Happy Birthday!

Another Andrea Malfunction

toothpaste for dinner

toothpastefordinner.com

I've told people that I have many strange gliches with my body, and also my less than normal character traits (like my liking for disinfectants). But everytime I tell them I sneeze when I look into the sun, they look at me like I'm a nutcase. Now I know there is a name for yet another of my malfunctions - Photic Sneeze Reflex.

According to Wikipedia:

Photic sneeze reflex is a genetic autosomal dominant trait, which causes sneezing when exposed suddenly to bright light, possibly many times consecutively. It is also referred to as photic sneeze response, sun sneezing, photogenic sneezing, the photosternutatory reflex, being photo sensitive, ACHOO syndrome, and "Achooism," with its related backronym Autosomal dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst syndrome. The condition affects 17 to 35 percent of humans.
The first mention of the phenomenon is probably in the later work attributed to Aristotle (Problems, book XXXIII).

The probable cause is a congenital malfunction in nerve signals in the trigeminal nerve nuclei. The fifth cranial nerve, called the trigeminal nerve, is apparently responsible for sneezes. Research suggests that some people have an association between this nerve and the nerve that transmits visual impulses to the brain. Overstimulation of the optic nerve triggers the trigeminal nerve, and this causes the photic sneeze reflex.

At least now I know I'm not alone...

Happy New Year

New Year's Eve with Family

This year, we decided to have a small gathering of just the 3 of us in our favourite restaurant - Shang Palace, at the Shangri-la Hotel. Dinner was wonderful and beyond any of our expectations. After dinner, we went to church as we thought it would have been more meaningful to pass the last minutes of 2008.

It is 2009 and I am just glad I have loving family and friends.
