Things I Learnt At Genting

Andrea's Top 5
Things I Learnt at Genting

______

5.
STARBUCKS is my friend!
For familiar beverages, stick to what you know best. I spent 70+ ringgit on Starbucks..
Hail Starbucks.... all 3 outlets 6000+ feet above sea level!!!

______

4.
If you thought Las Vegas was ultimate kitsch... You are SO wrong.
Refer to images above.

______

3.
Gambling is overly glamourised by TV.
The TV serial - Las Vegas, makes the fictional Montecito Casino look like heaven on earth. And one CSI (las Vegas) episode showed the chic life of a Hong Kong high roller Architect (yes, strangely... Architect!) who was given the liberty (and the help of 10 movers, provided by the hotel) to move and change the furniture (and wall colour) of his HUGE suite to fit geomancy ideals for fortune and good luck in his gambling. All this does not accurately show the barbarism of gambling in the Casino at Genting... smokey, crowded and loud.

______

2.
Bringing disinfectants like anti-bacterial toilet spray and alcohol wipes MAY NOT help you disinfect toilets.
2 visits to the toilets in Genting seriously disturbed me (still does). One toilet I went to was in the Outdoor Theme Park (where I walked off the calories in awesome weather). I saw a lady who was washing her feet in the lowered sink meant for children and disabled (yes, I too did admire her flexibility for a while) BUT THAT WAS DISGUSTING. I had no choice, washed my hands in the sink near her and made a run for it. The second toilet was within the Casino area where I was contemplating racing my "tree-trunks" back to MAXIMS lobby to use their CLEAN TOTO toilet, but my weak bladder failed to hold it in. The smell..... was something that could kill small animals (maybe children too). This leads me to my next point.

______

1.
Queuing For A Toilet Can Be Like Playing Russian Roulette.
Firstly, it is good to know... I have a feeling that all lavatories in the 2 toilets I described only had squatting pans. So those weak-kneed might want to strengthen their bladders or their knees! Secondly, queuing for a toilet in Genting is different from queuing for a toilet elsewhere I am more commonly used it. While most of us would understand toilet queuing to mean queuing and allowing the first person in the queue to take the next available cubicle, it is different in Genting, where people queue behind each cubicle. So sometimes you are lucky... and sometimes not so.

(1) Your bladder is at the mercy of the people before you -
You are lucky if: the people before you are fast in dropping their pants and finishing their business.
You are unlucky if: the people before you decide to take a dump(s)...possibly even suffer from severe constipation.

(2) After queuing for so long behind people, you will never know the conditions of the toilet -
You are lucky if: the people before you leave only pee on the sides of the squatting pan.
You are unlucky if: you find more than just pee.

I hope I have empowered you with what I have learnt!

When Everyone Heads to Singapore's Resorts World, My Family Takes a Different Approach

So it is my Dad's birthday and he gets to choose where he wants to spend his 59th birthday, instead of choosing Shang Palace, which my Mum and I expected he would, Daddy surprised us again with his answer:

G E N T I N G
M a l a y s i a
(Truly Asia)

Not only that, we were to be adventurous and take a bus to Genting!
(everyone knows how I don't really do well in buses, but I survived!)

Luckily we got a lovely room waiting for us at MAXIMS Genting
We stayed at one of the Maxims Suites which was large enough for the 3 of us and surprisingly well appointed withr Aigner toiletries and a walk-in closet. The rooms also came with complimentary evening cocktails, private check-in, assuring security and butler service. This was the first sign that Genting had indeed made some improvements since I last came -
around 12 years ago.

Here's some pictures I snapped of the room when we just checked in.

After the amazingly long bus ride I endured and refusing to eat the suspicious food during the rest stop, Mummy and I went to an Indian restaurant located steps away from the Genting Hotel's main lobby area where we had some wonderful

Chicken Vindaloo
Prawn Masala
Palek Paneer
&
Garlic Naan

One of the better Indian meals I have had for a while...
Extremely Sinful.
