Biennale 2011 : Old Kallang Airport - Michael Lee

Michael Lee
b. 1972, Singapore
Lives and works in Hong Kong and Singapore

Office Orchitect, 2011

Studio of fictitious architect, KS Wong; installation with models, prints and research notes
Dimensions variable
Commissioned by the Singapore Biennale 2011

Michael Lee is interested in examining the relationships between desire and space, and how human aspirations conceive and affect architectural environments. Inspired by the powerful sources of influence and imagination that have shaped Singapore's contemporary urban landscape, Lee's work investigates the possible outcomes of 'unrealised architectural proposals' that could have shaped an alternative image of Singapore. Working within this fictional framework, Lee's installation Office Orchitect consists of the studio, office and home of and invented architect named KS Wong, whose 'anally rigorous' practice offers a new approach to viewing urban development and natural environments.
